Beneath the Summer Heavens

If one were to step outside on a summer's evening, they might notice how the sky seems to open wider, its darkness pierced by innumerable lights. Allah ﷺ mentions this celestial adornment in the Qur’an:

“Indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars.” (Surah As‑Saffāt 37:6)

If one were to reflect on this verse, two profound realities would come to mind.

First, human life appears remarkably small. Under the vast canvas of twinkling stars, daily concerns fade, and it becomes clear that mankind is but a fleeting moment against the expansive universe which has been there for so long.

Second, Allah’s greatness becomes unmistakable. If one were to consider that the same Creator who laid out constellations to beautify the sky—an artistry beyond human reach—also guides every heartbeat and answers every earnest prayer, then humility and awe must follow.

Summer, with its clearer skies and gentler evenings, offers a unique stage for this deep contemplation. If one were to pause amidst the warmth and turn their gaze upward, they would see not just stars, but signs—tokens of Divine wisdom, artistry, and sovereignty. In such moments, smallness becomes a pathway to gratitude, and solitude invites closeness to the One who fashioned it all.
